Ashlynn DuncanWe start off class doing a journal prompt everyday. They turn in their best one for the week to be submitted for a grade. This one was in response to the prompt: Your main character tries to impress someone but it goes terribly wrong. . . Chapter 1: JacksonHi, I'm Jackson. I am an orphan from 1941. I have no friends, at least no anymore. The soldiers in the war killed my crush, Lilly. She had black hair and bright, blue eyes. And whatever room she walked into, she would fill it with light. She was beautiful. It was the second day of the war, and Lilly and I had ran to the woods where we stayed for the night. The next morning we continued to walk and while we were walking, we past by a beautiful lake. I decided to ask her to go on a date with me right there. We walked down to the the lake and I got a flower, turned to her and I was just about to ask when they showed up: the German soldiers. They came out of the bushes and took both me and Lilly back to their base. When we got there, Lilly said something stupid. They just ignore her and took us into where everyone slept. We were there for a couple of days before we got let out of the sleeping quarters. When we were let out, they gave us food and water. Then they put us to work by making us sort a whole bunch of things. When we were done, they gave us food and water again. Chapter 2: LillyI'm Lilly and I am an orphan from 1941. I have a lot of friends. One of them is really cute. His name is Jackson. He's tall and has dark hair and beautiful, brown hair. But as soon as the war started, we ran into the woods. We slept in a hole near the edge of the woods. The next day, we came across a lake. Jackson took me down there to freshen up. . . or at least I thought. Instead, he tried to ask me something, but before he could finish soldiers came out of the bush and took us to some sort of prison. After they took us to the sleeping place, they just left us there with no food or water. The next morning, Jackson and I woke up early. We started talking about how to get out. After we stopped talking, the soldier came and made us do work: lots of it. By the end of the day, we could barely walk back to the sleeping quarters. When it was lights out, Jackson and I decided to scout for options to get out. The next morning, as we were scouting, we found a gap in the fence. We were excited until we realized that it was a heavily guarded area. We would have to do it at night. The next night, we decided to try. After everyone went to sleep, we sneaked out of the sleeping quarters and past the sleeping guards. Chapter 3: MargotI'm Margot and I am homeless girl that ran into the woods when the war started. I saw Jackson and Lilly get taken.

Isaiah SeymourWe start off class doing a journal prompt everyday. They turn in their best one for the week to be submitted for a grade. This one was in response to the prompt, "Write a story in which the theme is, 'It is better to be a loner than try to be someone you're not.'" What a great story to tell. . . . There was once a raven who was born into a flock of kind doves. The raven was cared for by Mother Dove but was bullied by his "siblings." he wanted to fit in so he asked the willow tree what to do and the willow tree said, "Be yourself, but if you really want to look like a dove than grind up bones and cover yourself with the dust." He thanked the willow tree and did as he was told. He covered himself with bone dust.
Then a hawk came and raven shook of the dust and was the only one that got away. Th moral is. . . it's better to be yourself then try to be something you're not. Mari TysonAs of this week, we started our literary elements unit. The first short story we read was All Summer in a Day by Ray Bradbury. Students loved the story, but many were disappointed in the ending. One student in particular chose to write her own. She agreed to let me post it. I am super proud of her! They let Margot out of the closet. She came out with her head down and lifted her head up. She had tears all over her face, and you could see the sadness in her eyes. She looked at William and said, “It’s gone isn’t it?”
